Privacy Policy

What we collect, and why

CountProtein collects only what it needs to show you your daily protein number: the foods and portions you log, the photos you choose to take of meals or labels, your onboarding answers (like age range and activity level, used to set your target), and an anonymous account identifier. We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number to use the app.

Meal photos

When you photograph a meal or a nutrition label, the image is sent to a third-party AI vision provider (currently a Gemini Flash-Lite class model, accessed via our server — the provider is swappable and never receives your name or contact details) to estimate its protein content. This processing may occur on servers located outside Canada. Photos are deleted immediately after processing under our default retention policy.

If you turn on optional photo history in Settings, your photos are kept so you can look back at past meals. This is off by default — you have to turn it on yourself.

The corrections dataset (opt-in)

When you edit an AI-suggested food or portion, we can save that correction to help improve future estimates for everyone. This is off by default. Nothing is collected for this purpose unless you explicitly turn it on in Settings, and you can turn it off again at any time.

Your account is anonymous

CountProtein does not require you to sign up with an email or password. When you first open the app, we create an anonymous account identifier so your logs and settings can sync securely across sessions. It is not tied to your real name, email, or any other identifying information we collect.

Health data

If you give permission, CountProtein can write your logged protein to Apple Health or Health Connect. We only do this with your explicit permission, and only write dietary protein data — we do not read other health information from your device without a separate, clearly labeled permission request.

Purchases

Subscriptions are handled by RevenueCat together with the App Store or Google Play. CountProtein never sees your card number — we only receive your subscription status (for example, "active" or "expired") so the app can unlock the right features.

No ads, no selling data, no tracking

CountProtein has no advertising, and we do not sell your data to anyone. We do not use third-party tracking or advertising SDKs, and the app does not track you across other apps or websites.

Data may cross borders

Some of our service providers, including our AI vision provider and cloud infrastructure, process data on servers located outside Canada. This means your information may be processed in other countries, which can have different privacy laws than Canada.

PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25

CountProtein is built to align with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Law 25. If you have questions about how your personal information is handled, or want to exercise your privacy rights, contact us at support@countprotein.com.

Deleting your data

You can delete everything at any time. In the app, go to Settings → Delete my account and data. This permanently removes your logs, profile, and any stored photos from our servers — it is a hard delete, not a deactivation. You can also email support@countprotein.com and we'll delete it for you.

Children

CountProtein is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to check back occasionally.
